Nigel Short si-a revenit dupa infrangerea din runda 1 la Vassily Ivanchuk si a reusit in restul partidelor doua victorii si patru remize, urcand pe locul 2 la Memorialul Capalanca. El i-a invins pe Evgeny Alexeev si Lazaro Bruzon. In partida cu Alexeev, Short si-a surprins adversarul jucand 1.d4.
